Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is prepared from a small sample of a woman’s own blood. Regenerative Medicine Doctors centrifuge the blood to isolate platelets, which contain growth factors—natural proteins that support tissue repair, micro-vascular (small blood vessel) formation, and nerve regeneration. When PRP is injected into strategic points within the female genitals, studies show improvements in domains of the Female Sexual Function Index, a validated measure of desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain.

Research indicates that PRP enhances local blood flow by stimulating the growth of new capillaries (angiogenesis). Better circulation helps improve arousal and natural lubrication. Growth factors also support repair of the vaginal lining, leading to a healthier and thicker vaginal lining, which can reduce pain during intercourse. Evidence further suggests improved nerve responsiveness, which many women experience as enhanced genital sensation and more reliable or intense orgasms.

Women in published trials often report noticeable changes within a few weeks, with further gains over two to three months. Improvements commonly include easier arousal, increased lubrication, heightened clitoral sensitivity, and greater sexual satisfaction. Because PRP is autologous—derived from the patient’s own blood—serious adverse effects are very unlikely.

The current body of evidence is promising. Multiple clinical studies demonstrate favourable outcomes, and ongoing research continues to refine protocols and identify which patient groups benefit most. While PRP is not a cure-all, it represents a biologically grounded, minimally invasive option for women experiencing reduced sexual function due to hormonal changes, childbirth, ageing, or longstanding tissue injury.
