The recent moves by Senator Dayo Faduyile to get relief materials for victims of Okitipupa flood disaster as a temporary measure has started yielding results as the National Emergency management Authority ( NEMA) has mobilised its personnel to Ondo South senatorial District for on the spot assessment, collation of data as well as have a good knowledge of the impact on the constituents.
A top official of NEMA who pleaded anonymity said the inspection of the affected areas showed that severe damage was done to homes, businesses and farmlands which were completely submerged in the ravaging flood while major roads like, Lagos Benin / Ore Express Road were also affected badly. This is in addition to over 80,000 persons who were displaced from their homes.
The Official while briefing Senator Dayo Faduyile at his Abuja National Assembly office said inorder to get a comprehensive compilation of the flood victims, a register should be opened at each of the six local governments secretariat of Ondo South senatorial District.
He appealed to the council chairmen in all the six local governments in Ondo South to act as liason officials between NEMA personnel and the flood victims to ensure a proper, thorough and genuine documentation of those who are qualified to benefit from the relief materials.
Few days ago, Senator Dayo Faduyile went round some communities across Okitipupa where the flood affected residents to have on the spot assessment with a view to know the gravity of the situation so as to present needed help from NEMA and other state relevant authorities to come to the aid of the victims partly as short term measure while long term.solution is permanently sought for the problem which had become a yearly occurrence.
