A deadly flood which occurred between Nepali and Chinese border has left hundreds of people dead and still counting while several people are still missing.
The ravaging flood hit Nepal’s Rasuwa District and china’s Tibet autonomous region along the Bhote koshi River, with Nepal to the South and China to the North.

Reports monitored from multiple News agencies indicate that the cause of the flood was due to avalanche ice rock collapse on the Chinese Tibetan side of the border, which suddenly released a large volume of water and debris into the river system.
According to the French News agency, Reuters, the horrible flood that has claimed lives of several nationalities is an earthquake- induced glacial collapse on the Lhende khola leaving hundreds of tourists trapped in the disaster. This is so because the Rasuwa-Gyirong corridor is an important route for people travelling towards Mount Kailash and lake Manasarovar in Tibet as well as trekkers in the Langtang / Gasaikunda region.
Described as a compound Himalayan disaster, the August 26 2026 incident is not the first in the Nepal/ Tibet Rasuwa corridor as on July 8th 2025, there was a similar sudden flood that struck at the Bhote koshi/ Rasuwa area with several casualties also recorded.
Several images of the sad incident on CNN cable News showed how the flood power swept away houses, office high rise buildings, bridges and roads while people that were in total confusion ran for their lives which for many was too late.

Rescue mission and combined efforts were still on to see what could still be salvaged from the terrible disaster that had brought anguish and sorrow to many families whose loved ones were caught in this regrettable occurrence.
The highly profound lesson that can not be ignored is simple. Human knowledge backed up with advanced technology can put satellites into space, Artificial intelligence can be developed, tunnels could be built through mountains, enormous dams can be constructed while weather conditions can be forecast with almost accurate precision, yet despite all of these, just a mass of ice and rock in a remote mountain can suddenly break loose and unleash millions of tones of water that gives people in their hundreds no time for self defense. This shows one thing clearly that man can improve ability to observe and prepare for nature, man does not have any sovereignty over nature.
This Nepali-Chinese border disaster like several other ones in different parts of the world teaches man a lesson about limitations. Human knowledge has limits. It is true that science can study the glacier, satellites can watch the mountains, barriers can be built by engineers while meteorologists can predict and issue warnings but man can not command the mountain, the river, the earthquake nor the atmosphere.

Man can boast of conquering space, mastering technology and unlocking the secrets of nature, but when the waters rise without warning, man is limited and is reminded that he is still a creature and not the creator. Before the awesome forces of nature, human knowledge has limits, human power has boundaries and every man still remains subject to the sovereignty of the Almighty God, the creator of all things.
