Senator Dayo Faduyile has moved his first motion on the floor of the senate by announcing officially,the death of Senator Samuel Omololu meroyi who passed away on Wednesday at Akure at the age of 76.

Late Senator Meroyi was the pioneer Senator for Ondo South senatorial District in the 4th Republic between 1999 and 2003.

In the motion, Senator Faduyile sought for 4 prayers to be answered among which are,that a minute silence be observed for Senator meroyi, that the senate should recognise that the late statesman made commitment to efforts on democratic governance and public service long before the return of Nigeria to Constitutional democracy in 1999.

Other prayers sought in the motion are that ,”the pioneer Senator, representing Ondo South senatorial District in the 4th Republic, Senator meroyi played a historic role in laying the legislative foundation for effective representation of the district and contributed significantly to the consolidation Of Nigeria’s nascent democracy, through principled leadership,constructive legislative engagement and unwavering dedication to the welfare of his constituents and the nation at large,the senate is also to acknowledge that throughout his public life,he remained an accomplished statesman, whose humility, wisdom,discipline and commitment to democratic ideals earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues,political associates and the Nigerian people from all works of life”

Senator Faduyile also wants the senate to observe that the passing of Senator meroyi has deprived Ondo state,the National Assembly and indeed the federal Republic of Nigeria, one of the pioneering architects of the 4th Republic whose enduring legacy will continue to inspire present and future generations of public servants.

In the motion seconded by Senator Danladi Umar Alilu from Nassarawa North,Senator Faduyile asked the senate to direct the clerk of the house to transmit a formal letter of condolence to the family of the deceased on behalf of the president of the senate and the entire senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, express condolence to the government and people of Ondo state and the people of Ondo South senatorial District to relect those whose lives he touched during his distinguished career.He urged the people of Ondo South senatorial District and Nigerians in general to honour his memory by upholding democratic values,integrity and selfless service.

Thereafter the senate President, Godwill Akpabio asked for those in support or against the motion to signify through a voice vote.All the 4 prayers sought in the motion were supported by the senate and got the gavel of senate president Godswill Akpabio who later directed distinguished Senators to observe the one minute silence in honour of late Senator Samuel meroyi.

The first motion moved by Senator Dayo Faduyile on the floor of the senate is a defining moment for his legislative career as it carries constitutional, political and symbolic importance.The first motion has capacity to show his legislative competence,establishes credibility, demonstrates confidence,preparedness and creates a lasting first impression among his distinguished senate colleagues.
