As the World marks the World Teachers’ Day celebration for 2026, Senator Dayo Faduyile has described teachers as indispensable nation builders, calling for greater recognition of the profession and more conducive working environments for those entrusted with shaping the minds and future of the next generation.

In an official statement made available to Newsmen, Faduyile acknowledged the tremendous efforts of teachers to raise generation of young and old people adding that they do more than impartation of knowledge but equally “shape minds, build character, nurture talents as well as prepare generations for leadership and responsible citizenship “

The professor of pathology and Forensic medicine who is a renowned scholar described teaching as the mother of all professions because every Doctor, Lawyer, Engineer, Journalist, Scientist, Professor, Politician and other professionals passed through the hands of Teachers.

The Ondo South representative commended Teachers for their patience, sacrifices, resilience and dedication despite the challenges confronting the profession. He advocated for improved welfare, continous professional development, conducive working environments and greater recognition for teacher’s, adding that every notable investment in Teachers is an incredible investment in the future of the nation that will surely yield greater dividends.

While congratulating them for divine grace that enabled them witness this year’s celebration, he prayed for all teachers to be endowed with renewed strength, wisdom and good health for sustaining power in fulfilment of their destiny.

In 1994, UNESCO began to celebrate the World Teachers’ Day as a way of drawing attention to their needs and professional status.

The 2026 edition is significant because it marks the 66th anniversary of the 1966 ILO/ UNESCO recommendation with the Theme “Standing with Teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures”

UNESCO says it observes that the teaching profession faces new pressures from digital technologies, climate change, inclusion and displacement while teachers status can be weakened through inadequate recognition, limited professional autonomy, insufficient voice in policy making, salaries, workloads and poor working environments.
